李嘉誠基金會啟動《愛能助》兒童癌症項目 資助兒童罕見癌症 (Chinese version only)

香港中文大學(中大)醫學院於昨晚透過社交媒體作出緊急呼籲,為本院醫科畢業生張俊傑醫生患有罕見心臟病及第四期神經母腫瘤的17個月大兒子張可仁籌集治療費用。李嘉誠基金會今天(11月23日)宣佈即時額外注入200萬元予《愛能助》醫療計劃,讓中大能及時幫助有關患有罕見癌症的兒童。

 

張俊傑醫生為中大醫學院2000年醫科畢業生。其兒子張可仁早於出生第4天時已被診斷罹患一種罕有心臟病「主動脈狹窄」,需要接受緊急手術。可仁最近再被確診患上「第四期神經母腫瘤」,目前他的頭骨至腰椎和盆骨均受到癌細胞擴散,癌細胞壓着脊髓神經線,有癱瘓的危機,癌細胞更正轉移至骨髓。

 

可仁的治療方案包括化療、手術、放射治療、骨髓移植、免疫治療,為期一年至一年半。免疫療法可將存活率提升至50%。但免疫治療需要病人自費,所需費用高達港幣200萬元。然而,張醫生另一兒子患有自閉症,太太辭掉小學主任一職,全職照顧兩位小朋友,並要照顧父母親,經濟上未能承擔高昂的醫療費用。

 

李嘉誠基金會早前公布透過《愛能助》醫療計劃支持本港兩所醫學院的研究工作,並對其轄下教學醫院的指定範圍病人,提供醫療資助,減低他們財政上的負擔。中大醫學院建議的重點項目包括為癌症病人提供新型治療癌症藥物或裝置,以改善患者病情或減少複雜併發症。

 

鑑於可仁的病情及治療方案複雜,需要「免疫療法」此較新型的癌症治療方法,正正是《愛能助》計劃關注的病人,因此基金會特意提早啟動相關的資助項目,讓可仁及患有相類罕見兒童癌症的患者可盡快得到有關治療及幫助。

 

李嘉誠基金會主席李嘉誠先生得悉張醫生一家的情況後,深表關注,昨晚聯絡霍泰輝教授,希望可立即啟動《愛能助》下相關的兒童罕見癌症資助項目,讓張家得到所需資助,以解燃眉之急,並請霍教授向張醫生和家人轉達安慰和鼓勵。李先生亦十分希望事件能引發社會各界對兒童罕見癌症治療的關注。

 

張俊傑醫生表示﹕「同時罹患『主動脈狹窄』及『第四期神經母腫瘤』是1億份之1的機會,可仁遇上了。雖然我們也不明白事情為什麼會發生,但都會積極面對及接受治療。我們很感激李嘉誠先生及李嘉誠基金會的慷慨,也多謝社會各界的關心,這些支持對可仁和我們一家都十分寶貴。」

 

關於《愛能助》醫療計劃

目前社會上雖然已有安全網為綜援人士和合資格申請關愛基金或撒瑪利亞基金的人士提供資助,減輕他們的醫療開支,但仍有不少平時有自顧能力的家庭在面對某些疾病時,醫療開支頓成重擔,一籌莫展,對此醫護人員很多時也感到無奈及愛莫能助。

 

有見及此,李嘉誠基金會本年8月19日宣佈捐資1億元,在醫管局和香港大學、中文大學支持下推出《愛能助》醫療計劃,其中向兩所大學醫學院各捐資1,750萬元,為未能得到政府資助的「夾心基層」病患者提供經濟支援。
