Global Engagement
Under the guidance and with the approval of the Coordinator of Clinical Elective, every student arranges an attachment of the student’s choice in Hong Kong or overseas, in order to broaden the students’ horizons. The clinical elective is conducted in MED 5 summer for 4 to 6 weeks. In the 2017 to 2018 year, 93% of students completed their clinical electives overseas across 24 countries, while 7% completed clinical electives in Hong Kong. Apart from the summer electives, the university has a long tradition of promoting student term-time exchange to further enhance the exposure of our students. Over the past few years, some of our medical students have taken part in one year exchange studies in Europe and the United States.
With the new curriculum, we envisage increased flexibility regarding term-time exchange studies for medical students. In addition, the Faculty is building a network of exchanges with other overseas medical schools and institutions, for example Karolinska Institutet (KI). Since 2013, the newly launched GPS programme has provided outstanding students with opportunities to go on overseas exchange at top overseas institutions, such as the University of Oxford and Yale University.

Our Humanitarian Footprints
Passion and compassion are vital aspects of patient care. We encourage our students to join and lead community health projects, because by serving those in need in Hong Kong or abroad, you get to broaden your horizons, develop interpersonal skills and explore the qualities needed to succeed as a doctor.
Discover how you can make a difference by taking part in the community project.
