GPS Students Join the CUHK Medicine’s Humanitarian Footprints to Nepal

On 25 April 2015, an earthquake of 7.8Mw struck Nepal. Over 8,000 people were killed and hundreds of thousands of people were made homeless.

In 2016, GPS students joined Collaborating Centre for Oxford University and CUHK Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (CCOUC) team to Nepal to assess the post-earthquake health impact through conducting household visits and interviews with locals.

The team also attended various training on disaster preparedness and response organized by local institutions and NGOs. They visited Dhulikhel Hospital (Kathmandu) and learnt more about the disaster preparedness measures taken at hospital level.   They gained a deeper understanding in community recovery at the rural health centres in Sindhupalchok.
