GPS Graduate Rachel Leung Recognised as Rhodes Scholars 2021
Dr. LEUNG Ya Yuan Rachel, a GPS graduate in 2020, has been selected as one of the Rhodes Scholars who will receive fully-funded postgraduate education at the University of Oxford. Rachel is the second student from CU Medicine and the 15th awardee from CUHK to have been awarded the Rhodes Scholarship.
Rachel said, "The Rhodes Scholarship offers a unique opportunity to receive fully-funded postgraduate education at the University of Oxford. In addition, the scholarship gathers a diverse and esteemed house of scholars which encourages exchange of ideas on pressing issues faced around the world.
I was particularly interested in applying for the Rhodes Scholarship because of the strong emphasis of the Rhodes community on giving back to the society, as well as encouraging the exploration of controversial issues fundamental to every field of study. I believe that my upcoming postgraduate studies in clinical medicine, public health, and public policy will enable me to gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by healthcare systems, and to explore the innovations and technologies in clinical medicine.
I would like to thank my parents for supporting me throughout my years of undergraduate studies, and encouraging me to partake this path to become a research physician. On top of that, I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to teachers in CU Medicine, for teaching me medical knowledge, as well as being great mentors who provided invaluable support and guidance to me."
