Dr. TIPOE Timothy Liong, a 2019 graduate of GPS, has been awarded the Esther Yewpick Lee Millennium Scholarship to pursue a DPhil in Clinical Medicine and focus on HIV research at the University of Oxford, starting from October this year.

Timothy benefited enormously from various opportunities in GPS, especially the chance to attach in the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine in the University of Oxford. He reached the turning point of his life at Oxford, as such attachment experience not only taught him the ropes of molecular haematology, but also made him reflect on the importance of clinical research, which inspired this young and passionate medical student to purse a DPhil at Oxford later.

After graduating from CU Medicine, Timothy received medical training at Prince of Wales Hospital as a House Officer.

The Esther Yewpick Lee Millennium Scholarship, tenable at the University of Oxford, was established with funds from the estate of the late Dr. Esther Yewpick Lee, whose family has had strong connections with and affection for both CUHK and Oxford. The scholar will be fully sponsored to read for a postgraduate or a second Bachelor’s degree for a maximum of three years, covering the University and College fees at Oxford and personal allowance which amounts to over HK$1 million. It is offered for young prospective leaders who meet the academic criteria, have a respect for humanity, possess a curious mind, moral integrity and a spirit of adventure, and demonstrate the potential to make a contribution to the well-being of the community.
