Disaster Response Capacity Building in  Nepal

Collaborating Centre for Oxford University and CUHK for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response (CCOUC)

Teams composed of both trainees and trainers from varied academic backgrounds have been deployed to Nepal to conduct field-based training programme in humanitarian and disaster preparedness since the dual earthquakes struck Nepal in 2015. Under this programme, CCOUC teams visit Nepal from time to time to work closely with partners on disaster resilience enhancement and public health education in rural communities. We also work hand-in-hand with local medical organisations and NGOs to have exchanges in the work of community healthcare and sensitisation on emergency relief and recovery efforts in a disaster.

Needs assessment during humanitarian emergency depends heavily on how the responders communicate with the affected populations, so as to collect the most updated information from the field.
