Abstract

Our paediatricians have discovered that grass carp is the leading cause of fish allergy for children in Hong Kong, and found a new allergenic marker from grass carp parvalbumin, Cten i 1, which is now registered in the World Health Organisation and the International Union of Immunological Societies allergen database for diagnosis.

The team is further working on allergy tests based on this groundbreaking finding and hope to bring a more comprehensive profile of the allergy food source among the Hong Kong population.

The findings have been published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice and Pediatric Allergy and Immunology.
