State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease

Approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) established another new state key laboratory — the State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease (The Chinese University of Hong Kong) — in partnership with the Fourth Military Medical University (FMMU) on 1 July 2013. Its aim is to promote research and improve the level of diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases in Hong Kong and Mainland China through collaboration between the two institutions.

The State Key Laboratory (SKL) is housed in the CUHK Li Ka Shing Medical Sciences Building. CUHK and FMMU are both leaders in digestive disease research, with a long collaborative relationship and a common vision for achieving research developments that benefit mankind.

The SKL conducts basic, translational and clinical research on gastrointestinal cancer, peptic ulcer bleeding, chronic liver disease and inflammatory bowel disease.

The investigators of the SKL are a multidisciplinary group formed by professionals from a range of academic fields in gastroenterology, surgery, pathology, interventional radiology, molecular and cellular biology, and oncology, working together in synergy.

Another objective of the SKL is to strengthen ties between scholars in Hong Kong and Mainland China to help bring research developments to new heights of excellence, particularly with regard to strengthening China’s research in digestive diseases.
